Light & Sound
Learning Centers
Students using mirrors and flashlights to learn that light travels in a straight line and can be reflected off of surfaces.
Students are exploring different materials and colour swatches to understand if a material is transparent, translucent, or opaque.
|
Students used a light projector to explore different lenses of changes the shape of the light and how a triangular prism splits light.
Students tested different types of surfaces to see how it reflects light.
|
Using wax paper over containers and beans/rice/pasta, students learned that sound is vibrations. Vibrations reflecting within their container and making their beans/pasts/rice jump when they hit the sides of their container.
Students explore how a telephone works. The sound waves traveling trough the string. Does it work better when the string is taunt or lose?
|
Students testing different materials with rubber bands which they can pluck. Does it make a high or low pitch sound? Which materials worked best, why?
Using coloured water, a spoon and a cup, students can see sound waves travel through water.
